Karine Delage, Canadian publicist and founder of her own firm Karyzma Agency chatted about her career in the public relations industry.
Delage commenced her career as a journalist when she was 8 years old. She worked for the biggest magazine, 7 Jours, in the Quebec province when she was 13, then covered all of the biggest awards shows in the states. "I started doing more PR and I learned everything on my own. I moved to Toronto nine years ago and worked on my dreams which was to someday own a PR firm. It’s not always easy but I can say that I accomplished what I wanted and it doesn't stop there. This is just the beginning. People might not know but I used to be in a swim team in Quebec and I swam at the Quebec game in the open water when I was 15 years old. I still love swimming and it's the best sport I believe. I can say that I have been doing PR forever in a sense, I think that I was born with it," she explained. "Karyzma Agency is my baby," she said with excitement. "November of 2013 marked my two-year anniversary and I have been blessed to work with so many talented clients so far. Here is a little more about what we do. We are a full-service bilingual public relations agency. Our clients make news, we connect people with the right brand, support causes and created memorable events. The proactive and personalized approach is what set us aside from our competitors. Our mission is to created public relation programs that are efficient and adapted to the need of our clients, while keeping track of the current trends in every Canadian market." On working on the "Men of The Strip" project, she shared, "I have known Jeff for the past 12 yrs. 98 Degrees were my first-ever international interview. The boys always been good to me and generous with their time and we kept in touch. Working with 'Men of The Strip' have been incredible. I got my first-ever coverage in the United States with a front-page with the Portland Daily Sun and two extra pages inside the paper. It was my first time on the road and tour bus as well and really all the guys became my second family. Even if we are all done for the holiday, I speak to them on a daily basis. They are all crazy-talented and all of the 'Men of The Strip' team members bring something special." Regarding her future plans, she remarked, "2013 was insane in many ways. I started with working with Will Smith back in February and since then my life have been out of control in a good way. 2014 should be even more work on the international side of things with Waka Flocka tour, Justin Timberlake dancers project and Men of The Strip. These are only a couple of things because my schedule is getting crazy busy right now. My 8-year-old dream of becoming one of the top names in the entertainment world is slowly becoming reality and that’s what I would like to be in five years from now." For aspiring publicists, Delage underscored perseverance. "Never give up, believe in your dreams. People will always be there trying to bring you down at any stage of your life or career and you just need to prove to them that you are stronger than them. You need to always be networking. Doing PR seems to be the dream job but we don’t always party, we work hard every day and crazy hours. It isn't a 9 to 5 job. It's a 24/7 job and you always need to be there for your clients," she said. She has had many proud moments in the profession. "There are so many of them but here are my Top 5. My proudest was starting my own firm, because it takes a lot of guts to do your own thing. Second was working with Will Smith, this man is incredibly talented, humble and a nice person all around. Third, being the youngest journalist in Quebec when I was 13. Fourth, working with Jeff Timmons and 'Men of The Strip.' I would have to say equally at No. 5 the RealTVFilm lounge this year during the Toronto International Film Festival as we got incredible amount of coverage. It was my first-ever Toronto International Film Festival event as well," she said. For more information on Delage's Karyzma Agency, visit its official website.
