Green Bay - The Green Bay Packers made a late run and advanced to the NFL Playoffs, but injuries and some inconsistent play on defense have the team out of the running for a Super Bowl title and now the front office will turn its attention to the draft.
The return of Aaron Rodgers at the end of the season was huge, but the defense looked lost at times and it made life difficult for the offense. The latest mocks from Bleacher Report and Walterfotball have the team looking to strengthen this unit, but in different ways. Linebacker, secondary help, and finding another tight end are the biggest needs. With the first round pick, look for the front office to add some speed and toughness to the defense and linebacker C.J. Mosley of Alabama would be a terrific fit, but with the team playing in the pass happy NFC North, safety Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix, also from the Crimson Tide could be another option. Depending on what direction they take with their top pick, this team should add another defensive player in round two. Linebacker Trent Smith of Stanford could be the target as this youngster could play defensive end or outside backer, giving the Packers some speed on the edge and a player with some versatility. If Jermichael Finley decides to leave via free agency, this team will need another pass catching tight end for Rodgers and finding some help in round three could be their best option. Richard Rodgers of Cal is the type of player that could make an impact and help stretch the seems. Rodgers had a terrific season with the Golden Bears in 2013 and could be one of the top sleepers in the 2014 NFL Draft.
