Edmonton - The annual Ice On Whyte Festival in Edmonton's Old Strathcona neighbourhood began last weekend, during an unseasonably warm snap during which temperatures rose well above zero celcius.
Ice On Whyte is an annual winter festival featuring ice and snow carvings by artists from around the world. The ice carving competition is a major part of the festival, as are the ice slides. However, several of the delicate ice carvings had to be covered up when temperatures rose. A number of pieces sustained damage, but another deep freeze this week has preserved the majority of them. Ice On Whyte continues through Sunday, February 2. Here is a look at some of what you may see if you head over there.
