Pyongyang - Former NBA basketball super-star Dennis Rodman has arrived in North Korea, ready to mark Kim Jong-un's birthday with a celebrity game of basketball.
On Wednesday Kim Jong-un celebrates his birthday. He will be 31; still young for the leader of a world power. North Korea plans a series of celebrations to mark Kim's birthday and one includes a celebrity basketball game led by American former NBA basketball star Dennis Rodman, who has arrived in the country with a team of retired professional basketball players. Rodman's visit to North Korea is not his first. In December Digital Journal reported, "former NBA star Dennis Rodman makes third trip to North Korea." Rodman's squad includes ex-All Stars Kenny Anderson, Cliff Robinson, Vin Baker, Eric "Sleepy" Floyd, guard Doug Christie and Charles D. Smith, who played for the New York Knicks. Four streetballers are also on the squad. They will play a team of North Koreans and Rodman confirmed Monday the game is a birthday present for Kim, who is a huge fan of the sport. Rodman has publicly expressed his love for Kim and refuses to listen to reports of restrictions or abuse in North Korea. US state officials have confirmed that Rodman is in no way a representative of the USA. State organized birthday celebrations are already underway for Kim and, as The Telegraph reports,
Thousands of North Korean's gathered in the capital's main square to hold a mass rally as part of a series of celebrations for Kim Jong-un's birthday, which is on Wednesday. Supporters carried red flags and banners whilst chanting slogans in support of their leader.
