Paper, Facebook's new app for mobile gives combines the best features of Pinterest and newsfeed. Could this be the explanation for Facebooks abrupt change in advertising requirements?
Facebook's new app Paper will be available February 3rd. This iOS features a sleek, graphically based interface that will please mobile users. A few years ago, concerns about the Facbook mobile app dampened investor confidence. After announcing earlier this month that 52% of advertising revenues are mobile based, that concern has been put to rest.
Unlike Facebook's current clunky mobile version, Paper is beautiful, and texturally responsive. The app is picture based, a powerful stand-alone version of Facebook's most popular feature, newsfeed. Using a thumb, users can sweep from story to story on their newsfeed. Photos are automatically optimized based on the phone' s screen size. The arrangement of photos on a users screen is reminiscent of Pinterest's graphic based pin board. Paper is the reason behind changes last year in Facebook's advertising policies. After previously accepting any advertising a company cared to pay for, Facebook suddenly started declining to promote ads which had too much text. While advertisers complained about adjusting to this system, they may yet thank Facebook for the change. The changes make sense based on the growth of mobile Facebook users. Graphically based ads will now be even more attractive to mobile users, the fastest growing segment of Facebook users. You can follow Ini Augustine @mrsmadbiz. Google
