Guyuan - Fourteen people have been killed and 10 injured, among them children, after a stampede at a mosque in China’s northwest Ningxia region.

The incident occurred when traditional food was being served out to people during an event at the Mosque in Xiji town to honor a religious leader, reported Xinhua news agency. Police are carrying out investigations to determine the cause of the stampede. Reports indicate that four of those injured are in critical condition. The crush is said to have happened at around 13:00 local time on Sunday. Pictures from the site indicate clothes and shoes dispersed on the ground. A collapsed section of the building is also showed. Chinese news outlets reported that six dead bodies were found inside the building among them several children wearing colorful outfits. China’s Muslim Hui ethnic group live in Ningxia. Xijin town is principally an agricultural county whose key produces include peas, wheat and potatoes.
