Digital sales of music and movies have grown considerably in the U.K. during 2013. Correspondingly, sales of physical media have continued to decline.

The BBC has unveiled the continuing popularity of digital sales in the U.K.: a) Digital sales of video has grown by 40% in 2013, helping to offset a 6.8% decline in sales of physical formats. b) Music streaming has seen a 33.7% rise and now accounts for nearly 10% of consumer revenues from recorded music. c) The overall UK music, video and games market was worth £5.4 billion in 2013, which was up 4% on 2012's total of £5.1 billion. According to Digital Spy, one of the triggers for growth was a resurgence in the popularity of video games. For the first time in five years, video game revenue experienced growth in the U.K., increasing by 6.6% throughout the nation. Here Minecraft, Candy Crush Saga and Angry Birds were among the most popular digital downloads. Another trend helping sales is music streaming, as an alternative to downloading. The NME states that some 7.4 billion tracks were streamed in the U.K. last year, double the previous year's total. It would seem that the digital advance continues.
