More U.S. adults use LinkedIn and Pinterest than Twitter, a new Pew Research Center study which surveyed more than 1,000 Internet users showed.

The survey polled 1,445 Internet users aged 18 and older, according to Reuters. Pinterest, the photo pin-up site with particular appeal among female users, spiked in popularity over the past year as 21 percent of respondents said they employ the service, a jump from 15 percent in a similar survey conducted in 2012. LinkedIn sliced 22 percent while Twitter took 18 percent, holding roughly steady from a year ago. Twitter however ranks higher than Pinterest in terms of engagement. 46 percent of respondents said they visited the micro blogging platform daily, compared with 23 percent for Pinterest and just 13 percent for LinkedIn. Facebook is still king of social media Facebook remains king, as 71 percent of respondents said they used the social network, up from 67 percent one year ago. "That means nearly everyone on social media is on Facebook," GeekWire reported. "The 71 percent stat is more than triple the amount on competing sites like LinkedIn, Pinterest, Twitter and Instagram" GeekWire added that 42 percent of U.S. adults are now using at least two networks as these social hubs continue to grow.
