Los Angeles - One might think the winners of Sunday's Golden Globes will influence the outcome of the Oscar nominations. But, they will not for one important reason.
The voting ends on submissions for the Oscar nominations Jan. 8. The Golden Globes will be held Sunday, Jan. 12. Surely the winners could influence some potential Oscar champs, but the nominations will be locked and loaded come Globe time this Sunday. The official word from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is that nominations voting for the Oscars will close on Wednesday, Jan. 8, at 5 p.m. PT. Furthermore, the votes are being tabulated and verified by the international accounting firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers. Oscar nominations will be announced Jan. 16. The three guilds which have a deeper influence than the Golden Globes are the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), the Producers Guild of America (PGA) and the Directors Guild of America (DGA). The latter announces their top directors today (Jan. 7). Meanwhile, it was also announced that John Legend will perform at the annual Governors Ball, held right after the Oscar telecast. “John Legend is one of the industry’s most innovative and talented artists,” said Jeffrey Kurland, Costume Design Branch governor and chair of the Governors Ball. The Governors Ball is expected to boast 1,500 guests, which will include Oscar winners and nominees, show presenters and performers, and other more. “We’re thrilled he will be joining us to celebrate this year’s achievements in film, and for what promises to be a most memorable evening,” added Kurland, in a release.
