The reason Michael Koncz gets along very well with Manny Pacquiao as his adviser could be traced to his unquestionable loyalty to the Filipino boxing superstar despite his perceived dishonesty in handling Pacquiao's finances.

This is how Pacquiao's long-time legal counsel Atty. Franklin Gacal thinks after many years of close association with the eight-division world champion. "Manny is a good man. If you show him loyalty and you really work for him, you will be rewarded. Steal from him 10 times and asked for forgiveness once, he will forgive you 11 times" Gacal told rappler.com. Gacal's statement confirms several reports of dishonesty committed in the past by some members of Team Pacquiao. Most of the incidents including the reported unauthorized withdrawals from his US bank accounts by a trusted couple, have been settled out of court after the perpetrators beg Pacquiao for forgiveness. In a private interview with Edwin Espejo of Rappler, Gacal commented on some issues hounding Pacquiao including his tax issues with the Philippines and US governments as well as the possible collusion between Arum and Koncz. Gacal pointed to Koncz as the person responsible for Pacquiao's recent tax woes with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR). Commenting about the tax issues facing Pacquiao, Gacal said it was Koncz fault. "Well, it appears there is really a problem. The IRS is claiming there is a tax deficiency. If there were some mistakes, it was Mike’s fault. Why did it happen? They were supposed to have hired accountants. At the end of the year, after the filing of the tax returns, all problems should have been solved. If the US still has claims, there should be problems with recording and everything. So this is the point man’s fault and that is Mike." Gacal, who is a city councilor in General Santos City, said he has nothing to do with Pacquiao's finances. His role is limited to making sure that Pacquiao understands his contract with his promoter. To view Gacal's interview by Edwin Espejo, please click the link to the article. Meanwhile, boxing fans are eagerly awaiting Pacquiao's choice of his next opponent for his April 12 ring date at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The choice has been reduced to two from the original shortlist of four candidates including Floyd Mayweather, Jr. The two aspirants include Timothy Bradley and Ruslan Provodnikov.
