Blackberry, the troubled smartphone manufacturer, is to part ways with singer-songwriter Alicia Keys, the BBC has announced. Alicia Keys was hired by the smartphone maker last year when it launched its BlackBerry 10 devices. As the Digital Journal recently reported, this news comes on the heels of the smartphone manufacturer reporting worse than expected losses of during 2013. The company has reported losses of $4.4 billion. The main reason for this is due to the company shipping only 1.9 million smartphones in the quarter compared to 3.7 million in the previous quarter. According to Sky News, in a statement BlackBerry have thanked Alicia Keys for her part in the year-long collaboration: “We thank Alicia for her many contributions including providing creative direction for the BlackBerry Keep Moving Project which attracted more than 40m visits.” Alicia Keys role as 'creative director' was never clearly defined. Part of her role was involved with Blackberry's Keep Moving project which bought together musicians, writers, artists, filmmakers and athletes.
