Minneapolis - Minnesota is just one of several NFL teams that are likely to take a quarterback in the first round of the 2014 Draft, but the Vikings will need to wait until the eighth overall selection to make their choice in the opening round.

Fans would love to see the front office trade up with St Louis to get the second overall selection and that is a possible move as the Rams have expressed an interest in trading down, but this mock is based off their current situation and reports from Bleacher Report has Derek Carr of Fresno State as the top pick. Carr has steadily moved up draft boards all season and with his size, arm strength, and decision making, he could take over for Christian Ponder as the teams new young signal caller. This team also needs an upgrade in the secondary and Walterfootball has Florida State safety Lamarcus Joyner as the top prospect in round two. The Vikings face three good passing teams every year just in their own division and stopping the pass has to be a priority, making this pick a solid choice and one that could help turn the defense around in 2014. The third round could be interesting as the team could look for a corner, wide receiver, or some added depth on the offensive line. With the troubles they had this past season, finding more help in the secondary could be the wisest move and Kyle Fuller or Loucheiz Purifoy are two excellent athletes that could help this struggling defense immediately.
