Philadelphia - MLB teams looking for help in their starting pitching rotations got some good news this week when veteran free agent A.J. Burnett decided to play baseball in 2014.
The 37 year-old went 10-11 with a solid 3.30 ERA last year for the surprising Pittsburgh Pirates and despite reports he would call it quits, the former eighth round draft pick has decided to play again and several teams have already shown interest. One team that is near his Maryland home and looking for some help this season is Philadelphia. The Phillies are in rebuilding mode, but adding a veteran could allow the team to make a couple trades and bring in some extra talent. Burnett has ten or more victories for nine straight seasons and he showed last year he can still handle the pressure of playing in a tight race. With the start of the MLB spring training taking place in the next couple of weeks, look for the veteran right hander to find a new home rather quickly and the Philadelphia Phillies could reap the rewards of his return to baseball this season.
