New York - Many have now read Woody Allen's op-ed in The New York Times stating he did not molest adopted daughter Dylan Farrow. In the same piece, he also attacks ex-partner Mia Farrow.

According to Allen, after 20 years, Mia maintains the vengeful lie that Allen sexually abused Dylan because Mia was scorned by Allen having an affair with and later marrying her adopted daughter Soon-Yi Previn. Per Allen, Mia is the muse behind Dylan's recent open letter which re-states claims of abuse. But Dylan has again rejected Allen's "I did not molest Dylan" truth allegations.

A valid question is why did Allen’s response to Dylan appears in the opinion section of the Times. And why did the newspaper relegate Dylan's letter detailing alleged child-sex abuse to Nicholas Kristof’s weekly “On the Ground” blog? If Farrow’s letter was too personal, too intimate and too raw to be included on the opinion page, would not the same be true for Allen’s rebuttal? Dylan wrote that 21 years ago, during the investigation, there were doctors who were willing to “gaslight an abused child.” Is what the NYT did by giving Allen prime space for an “opinion” piece similar? The difference is Dylan is now an adult. She does not have the fame and glory Allen has, and an open letter published on an NYT blog page is all she could hope for, but she made optimum use of limited resources. Undoubtedly, Dylan knew that Allen would dismiss her claims of abuse, and she also knew he would have access to people and forums that she did not. Nevertheless, she has responded to his truth claims and understands Allen is an honored member of Hollywood and New York City’s elite, the same community that stood behind him and accepted that no charges against him meant that he was, apparently, not an abuser. At least this is what they told themselves, as Diane Keaton must have done when she replaced Mia Farrow in an Allen film shortly after the initial molestation scandal. Could this be the reason Dylan called out Keaton in her open letter?

In the midst of the saga, the public takes sides. Some say Dylan is telling the truth, while others, and Allen, say she only believes she is because Mia mythically implanted false memories that have taken root, grown, and fully blossomed into a persistent distorted reality. Still others say we will never know if Allen abused his daughter, and the closed cased should not be opened and decided in the court of public opinion. It should be noted, however, Dylan is no longer a confused, frightened 7-year-old girl, but a fully grown 28-year-old woman who has had years of therapy, time for self-reflection, and myriad memories which she has processed and has sifted through the truth and lies. “It is not possible for the intelligent, famous and esteemed Allen to have molested Dylan. Certainly, over all these years, he would have done it again and been caught,” defenders of the alleged child-sex abuser say. Those who utter such words know little about pedophiles who stalk and groom their prey for years. They do not understand that the John or Jane Q. Public world is not like Hollywood’s where directors, like Allen, can make multiple references to sex with young girls and no one flinches. And do not forget, money can buy many desires, including sex with underage girls and silence after the finished deed. Dylan proclaims that once again, Allen has lied and his response presents gray matter as black and white. He indeed passed a lie detector, but it was administered by a private test-taker, because Allen refused to undergo one administered by the state of Connecticut authorities. Also, Allen claimed that before the allegations, no one had questioned his relationship with Dylan. Yet, he was in treatment for what his own therapist referred to as “inappropriate” behavior with Dylan. Her statement ends with gratitude to supporters and these words: “If speaking out about my experience can help others stand up to their tormentors, it will be worth the pain and suffering my father continues to inflict on me. Woody Allen has an arsenal of lawyers and publicists but the one thing he does not have on his side is the truth.” No argument will ensue, as Allen stated in his NYT column, “This piece will be my final word on this entire matter . . . “ By default, it appears that Dylan, literally, has the final say.
