Austin rockers NELO released their brand new eponymous full-length album on February 4, 2014. It encompasses rock and soul.

NELO is comprised of Matt Ragland (rhythm guitarist and primary songwriter), Reid Umstattd on lead vocals, Matthew Muehling on bass/guitar, and drummer David Sierra. Their self-titled CD is a dynamic piece of musical work. The CD opens with an infectious instrumental intro and it followed by the rocking "Hometown" and the equally noteworthy "Until We Die." "Old Friends" and "Letters" are both acoustic masterpieces, while "They Don't Know You" is an upbeat and catchy tune. "50 Years" is simple yet soothing and "Blow" is reminiscent of a quintessential Dave Matthews Band tune, which ought to be perceived as a major compliment. "Stuck" is another highlight ballad on the CD and "Take It Back" is a bluesy vocal. The outro is extremely well done, where the listener is yearning for more. A demo version of "Letters" is offered as a bonus track on the album, which is a real treat. The Verdict Overall, the new NELO album is highly eclectic. There is something in it for everybody. It deals with such subject matters as loss, frustration and new love, all of which are topics that many people can relate to. Although I was unfamiliar with NELO's music prior to this release, I instantly became a new fan. These Texas musicians certainly rocked it. I would not be surprised if I hear their songs in motion picture soundtracks in the future, since they are all high-quality songs. It garners 4.5 out of 5 stars.
