Gelsenkirchen - Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Ronaldo all helped themselves to a brace in the first leg of the Champions League in Germany against FC Schalke 04. The Galacticos were positively off the planet as Ancelotti's men destroyed Schalke 6-1.

Madrid began the destruction of Schalke from the very first minute with a series of slick passing, mazy dribbles and close goal-bound shots. Benzema opened up the scoring after a defence-splitting pass from Bale, which involved Ronaldo too, and then the Welshman got himself on the score sheet. Bale, who moved from Tottenham last summer for a record fee of £85m ($150), bobbed and weaved through the Schalke defence, leaving many of them on the floor in his wake. He then cleverly shifted the ball from left foot to right, before slotting coolly home with a neat finish inside the near post to make it 2-0. The second half saw Real Madrid keep up the regal performance with a Ronaldo quadruple step-over, that would not have looked out of place at a Michael Flatley concert, to make it 3-0. The onslaught was by no means over as Benzema and Ronaldo combined with some exhibition football to feed Sergio Ramos, who then passed back to Benzema who slotted home for 4-0 on 57 minutes. With still over half an hour to go, one wondered just how much worse it could get for Schalke, who have enjoyed some great form in the Bundesliga so far this season, reports BBC Sport. Bale was awesome as he rewarded Sergio Ramos's pin-point through-ball with a sublime finish to make it 5-0 and game, tie and match over! The only consolation for the German outfit was that they only had to endure another 20 minutes or so. Late on in the dying minutes, Ronaldo seized on an error by the beleaguered Fahrmann to add a sixth. However, the home fans stayed on to witness the best goal of the night from Huntelaar, which became no more than a consolation effort - but what an effort!
