Santander - A Copa Del Rey match between Real Sociedad and Racing Santander was abandoned after just a minute when the latter refused to play.

Racing’s players have been locked in a battle over wages, with the players and staff reportedly unpaid for several months. The match kicked off, with Sociedad playing the ball between themselves in the opening minutes, whilst the Racing players stood together in the center circle with their arms interlinked. Their opponents pass the ball around, before coming to the realisation that Racing were not going to participate. When they refused to take their throw-in, the referee abandoned the match. Racing made known of their intention to boycott the match three days ago, unless the board of directors stepped down due to the club's poor financial condition. Luis Rubiales, president of Spanish Professional Footballers’ Union said: “If at 2100 the Racing board is the same as now, they will not play.” “The squad decided something last Monday which they made public, and they continue thinking exactly the same, that if the current board have not resigned by the time of the game they are not going to play. They have the complete backing of the AFE, as always.” The players made good their intentions and refused to play. The victory is likely to be awarded to Real Sociedad. Having won the first leg 3 – 1, Sociedad will go on to play Barcelona in semi finals of Copa Del Rey after their 5 – 1 demolition of Levante on Wednesday.
