What do ebooks, 3D printing, green living, and real estate have in common? As of this morning, they all have Vancouver's GrowLab as a connecting factor.
Vancouver-based startup accelerator GrowLab this morning announced the first four members of its spring 2014 cohort. GrowLab alumni from previous cohorts include ePACT Network (just secured a $1 million funding deal), Food.ee, Wantering, Weeve (acquired), and SkyScraper (now Floodlight). This spring's cohort will be splitting their time between Vancouver and Silicon Valley. Following a roadtrip from Vancouver to San Francisco (with mentoring sessions along the way, including Seattle), the spring 2014 cohort announcement was made at .... Joining the ranks at GrowLab are the following teams: ethicalDeal: Connects consumers with 'green' products at reduced rates in exchange for socially shared feedback and reviews. PrintToPeer: 3D printing from the cloud. Allows you to print to your 3D printer from anywhere. Spark CRM: Online customer relationship management platform for real estate. Features include registration pages, contracts and conveyancing, activity reporting, lead capture, email newsletter templates, team and private calendar management, and media management. BitLit: BitLit offers a mobile app that allows users to download digital editions of print books they already own. Publishers can also use BitLit to offer readers bundled editions of their work in both print and digital format. The GrowLab team received over 350 applications for their spring 2014 class. After interviewing over 70 startups, the first four companies were chosen. This spring's class is the first that will be under the direction of GrowLab's new executive director, Jonathan Bixby. "I am very excited about the new cohort. All of the companies that we selected have real traction and are in growing and valuable markets," Bixby said.
