When cows are stressed out, they produce less milk. The solution to this problem is to turn on R.E.M.'s song "Everybody Hurts." That is according to a study that was done by the University of Leicester.
According to Grist, according to the study, cows are able to relax and release more oxytocin, which is important to the production of milk. Researchers found that milk output is increased by 3 percent when slow jams are playing. According to CBS, 1,000 member herds of Friesian cattle took part in the study. The cattle were exposed to no music, slow music and fast music for 12-hours per day within a nine week period. According to UPI, cows that listened to rap songs and techno songs showed no signs of an increase in milk production. Industrial diary facilities can be very loud and hectic, and cows could end up becoming stress out. This is why it makes sense that music may keep cows distracted, and helps the remain calm.
